Seven famous Lakes in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is a state famous for its beautiful lake and reservoirs. Himachal Pradesh is blessed with snow capped mountains, green meadows and lovely lakes. The total area of Himachal Pradesh is 56,000 sq km out of this 1 percent is occupied by lakes only.

Renuka Lake

Renuka lake located in Sirmour province of Himachal Pradesh. This lake covers a total area of 2.5 kms. Main towns are Nahan 38 km and Paonta Sahib 60 km located around the Renuka lake. Boating and fishing is main things to do at Renuka Ji lake. A temple of Renuka Ji on the bank of lake makes it spiritual sight for devotees. Travellers visits Himalayan zoo located near the Renuka lake. Barking deer, lions and leopards can be seen in this zoo. Weather of Renuka ji remains hot in summer as it is located on low altitude. In winters woollen clothes are recommended.

Dal lake Dharamshala

Dal lake located 3 kms above Mcleodganj. In falls on the way to village Naddi. Dal lake surrounded by a forest of deodar and pine trees. Every year in September Dal lake becomes a centre for attraction as a local festival devoted to lords Shiva celebrated at Dal Lake. Climate around Dal lake remains very cold in winter and pleasant in summers. A famous tourist spot Naddi located 1 km from the Dal lake. Naddi is a viewpoint for a spectacular view of Dauladhar. A trek route to triund also starts from Dal lake.

Revalsar lake

Revalsar Lake is among the most visited lakes of Himachal Pradesh. Revalsar located 24 km from Mandi. Revalsar situated among the dense vegetation. This lake is spiritually important for Budhist, Hindu and Sikhs. Revalsar is important for Budhist as it was visited by their preacher. Similarly this place is associated with the life of Guru Gobind singh. Hindu visits this lake because of temple delovted to lord Rama and Krishana. In winters Revalsar remains cold like other parts of Himachal Pradesh. You need woollen clothes in winters. In summer it is as hot to wear light summer dresses.

 Prashar Lake

Prashar lake located 40 km away from Mandi. Prashar lake got its name from Hindu sage Maharishi Prashar who mediated here. Prashar lake located on highest point of Mandi district. Tourists can reach Prashar by vehicle. There is also an option to trek a stretch of 7 kms from the Baggi village leads to Prashar lake. This trek is among the dense forest of Pines crossing the Bias river. There is a temple located by side of Prashar lake. This temple devoted to sage Prashar. This temple is made of  wood has been taken from only one tree only. There is also a floating island inside the Prashar lake. This island changes its location every year. On 12 of April every year a festival is celebrated at Prashar lake. There is also an arrangement to stay at Lake near the temple.

Chanderal Lake

Chandertal lake or Moon lake located at Spiti section of district lahul and Spiti of Himachal Pradesh. Chandertal lake located on altitude of 14,100 feets (4,300 meters ). It is a paradise of the people love trekking and camping. A trekking route of 8 kms reaches to Chander Tal from Kunzum pass accessible from May to October mid. Chandertal Lake is also accessible from Batal by motor able road. There is vast area of green meadow available on the bank of Chandetal lake for camping. June to September is the best time to visit Chandertal lake.

Suraj Tal lake

Suraj Tal lake located 65 km away from Keylong.  It is among the highest lake of India on a altitude of  4950 m. It is third highest lake in India and 21st highest in the world. Suraj Tal lake. Suraj tal lake is accessible by Manali Leh highway from June to mid October. A trek of 3 kms takes to Suraj tal through Bagha valley. Suraj Tal lake is inaccessible from October to May. All the area remains snow covered in this period.

Mani Mahesh lake

Mani Mahesh Lake is spiritual Lake of Himachal Pradesh located in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. Kailash paravat the greatest pilgrim of Hindu located close to Mani Mahesh.
